CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are trying to find the man who robbed a 54-year-old woman at an ATM across from the Arboretum Shopping Center on Providence Road Tuesday night.
“He came out of nowhere, just slid up the side of my car," said the victim, who did not want to be identified.
Her life changed in just a few seconds. "I feel very blessed to be here."
She pulled up to use the Wachovia ATM around 8:45 p.m. She said she was careful.
"I scanned the parking lot. I sized up the cars that were there and didn't see anybody pulled up. It was well lit. Pulled up close to the machine."
In short, she did everything right and still got robbed at gunpoint.
"I saw him first in my rear view mirror and when I turned my head there was a gun right there at my shoulder. That's when it dawned on me, ‘Oh my God, this is happening.’"
The suspect took $23, her cell phone and left the victim a nervous wreck.
"It could have been so much worse. I feel like all my guardian angels were right there trying to help me as much as possible, and I feel lucky to be sitting here with you," she said.
The woman did not get a clean look at the suspect because he used his t-shirt as sort of a mask. She hopes police catch him before he hurts someone.
