A solemn day of events was held at Virginia Tech on Sunday, in honor of the 32 people who were killed in a campus shooting 10 years ago.
The ceremonies began at midnight, with the lighting of a remembrance candle.
It was protected by a corps of cadets, who stood around the memorial for 32 minutes.
A statewide moment of silence was observed at 9:43 am.
Gov. Terry McAuliffe attended a wreath-laying ceremony in the afternoon, followed by another moment of silence.
There will be a candlelight vigil on Sunday evening, and then at midnight, the memorial candle will be extinguished.
