NEW YORK (AP) — Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch (kahch) is keeping tabs on the Democratic National Convention while undergoing a battery of hospital tests.

A spokesman says Koch now expects to be in the hospital until Friday. He had initially hoped to be released Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the 87-year-old Democrat has been fielding calls from New York politicians in Charlotte, N.C.

The spokesman says that when one asked Koch how he was feeling, he replied, "Forget about that. Tell me about the platform."

He's especially interested in issues related to Israel.

Koch felt weak over the weekend while staying with friends in North Carolina.

He was admitted to a hospital Tuesday with anemia.

Koch served three terms as mayor from 1978 to 1989. He's credited with rescuing the city from bankruptcy.
