Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday, February 07, 2013. A potentially major Winter storm will develop in the middle of the country Thursday while strengthening as it moves into the Upper Midwest. This storm will gather a considerable amount of moisture that will produce significant rain in the eastern Plains and Mississippi Valley, and heavy snow through Wisconsin and Michigan. The intensity of this snowfall has prompted Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories for much of Wisconsin and Michigan, warning of over a foot of new snow for some areas. The heaviest of this snow will fall in Michigan, while less than a foot will fall in Wisconsin.

A second storm will track across the Gulf Coast and over Florida before curving to the northeast along the eastern seaboard. This storm will also gather significant moisture that will allow moderate to heavy rain to fall along the Gulf Coast in the morning, and additional rainfall along the eastern seaboard as far north as Virginia by the end of the day. Breezy to gusty winds are also likely from this storm as it strengthens.

On Friday, the two aforementioned storms will combine form a strong storm off the Northeast Coast. This new storm will have the capability to produce over a foot of snow in parts of New England Friday and into Saturday.

In the West, a Pacific storm will slam into the Northwest coast, bringing needed rain and high elevation snow from Washington through central California. Along with the precipitation, cold air accompanying this storm will bring frigid morning temperatures beginning Friday and lasting into the weekend. This cold air will lower snow levels to a few thousand feet in California. The storm is also likely to produce wind gusts to 60 mph or higher in the foothills of California.

The Northeast will rise into the 20s and 30s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The Upper Midwest will rise into the 20s and 30s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Wednesday have ranged from a morning low of -16 degrees at Ely, Minn. to a high of 88 degrees at Edinburg, Texas
