MANTI, Utah (AP) — Authorities say an elusive survivalist fired multiple shots at officers in a helicopter but didn't hit anyone before surrendering in the snowy mountains of central Utah.

Sanpete County Sheriff Brian Nielson says 45-year-old Troy James Knapp was arrested Tuesday morning.

Knapp is suspected of burglarizing dozens of Utah cabins over the past six years throughout southern and central Utah.

Nielson says Knapp tried to flee on foot after firing the shots but was caught by officers.

Authorities say he was armed with at least one rifle and one handgun. He was wearing camouflage clothes and sporting a red beard with some gray.
