NCHP works to unravel Hickory hit-and-run

HICKORY, N.C. (AP) - The Highway Patrol is trying to unravel a highway hit-and-run which claimed the life of a man in Catawba County.

Area media outlets report that the body of 35-year-old John Morrison of Mountain View was found shortly before 7 a.m. on Monday on U.S. 321. The patrol was alerted by a passing trucker.

Patrol officers found parts of a Honda Civic near the accident scene. But they later determined that the Honda tire tracks were about a week old and that vehicle parts were there before Monday's accident.

Authorities say the driver may have hit the victim without realizing it.

Early Tuesday morning, authorities in Catawba County told NBC Charlotte they may have possession of the suspect vehicle. NCHP says they are processing the vehicle and will release more information Tuesday afternoon.
