CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 7th Street Public Market will kickoff to this season’s Green Market Saturdays on this weekend.

The event will start at 8:30 a.m. and run until 1 p.m. on Saturday.

New vendors will join existing Market businesses for an expanded Market experience each Saturday through September. Some of the vendors joining us next Saturday include:

•Put a Fork in It: Carolina-grown produce (mostly veggies and fresh herbs).
•Unity Farms: Plants, fruits and veggies (selling only plants on Ap. 27th).
•Go-go Fresco: Mobile, sustainable, missions-based farmers’ market.
•Vinksters: Gourmet kettle corn, Italian ice and lemonade shakers.
•Chowbaby Brands: Non-alcoholic cocktail mixers handmade with 100% natural, real fruit.
•Garnet Gals: Jams, jellies and preserves made from local produce.
•King of Pops: Handmade ice pops in flavors like blackberry ginger lemon and chocolate sea salt.

Weekly Green Market Saturday events will feature a special theme  each Saturday, from BBQ to watermelon, ice cream and even salsa. Other notable Green Market Saturday events include:

1. June 22 – Pet Food Drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest helps families in need in many ways, including by helping them feed their pets. We will partner once again with The Charlotte Hounds (Lacrosse team) to collect donations of bags or canned dog and cat food.

2. July 13 – Firefighters’ Pancake Breakfast. This event raises money annually for the Charlotte Firefighters’ Burned Children’s Fund. Charlotte firefighters set up on the patio and prepare pancakes, with all proceeds going to the fund.

3. August 24 – The Great Cookie Crumble. This annual event invites bakers from Center City restaurants to bring their best cookies for judging in categories including texture, appearance, dunkability, and taste! Fifteen cookies were entered in 2012. There is also the coveted “most unusual” cookie award.
