KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. -- A Kings Mountain man is dead after an explosion at the welding shop he owned on Monday.
Authorities said Randy Shepard was killed at the Sheppard Welding Plant off Bethlehem Road around 10:30 a.m.
Shepard loved what he did.
“His business here told it all, busy all the time overloaded with work, took such pride in his work, you knew it would be fixed right," his daughter Sharon White told NBC Charlotte.
The owner of Shepard Welding in Kings Mountain for almost 40 years, he was killed Monday after a gas tank he was working with apparently blew up.
“Daddy was always cautious he knew what would explode, what wouldn’t,” White said. “Yes, he had done this many times before."
That's what makes it so hard for his family -- the 69-year-old raised three kids after his first wife passed away.
White said, "I have a lot of good childhood memories, we had lots of those, we always knew he was there if we needed anything, he was there for us.
"He was a great granddad; dad and everybody just loved him,” White said. “He was a wonderful person."
