HICKORY, N.C. -- Authorities in Hickory want to reassure the public that the water supply is safe following a sanitary sewer overflow.

An electical equipment failure at a pumping station led to the discharge of about 12,000 gallons of sanitary sewer overflow into an unnamed tributary of the Catawba River Basin.

The Mooresville Regional Office of the Division of Water Quality has been notified of the spill, and authorities say the overflow had no negative impact on the environment.

If you have any questions, you may call the City of Hickory Public Utilities Department at (828) 323-7427.
