CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Neighbors say a family dispute ended with a house being set on fire in northeast Charlotte Friday morning.

The fire was reported just after 8 a.m. at a house on Carved Tree Lane in the Mineral Springs neighborhood.

Neighbor Isaac Murrey said the husband and wife who live at the home got into a fight and the man apparently beat the woman.

"She has a lot of head injuries. She has head injury, leg injury, shoulder injury. He assaulted her with some type of weapon," Murry said. "She went over to another neighbor's house seeking help after she was assaulted and when she left is when he set fire to the home."

When fire crews arrived at the house, flames were coming out the front door. According to Murrey, firefighters found the husband upstairs in the bedroom unconscious and took him outside into the front yard. The man was resuscitated before both he and the wife were taken to a hospital.

Murrey said the couple's 24-year-old son told him he and his father were arguing the night before.

"It started with a domestic dispute from the father and son last night and led to confrontation with the husband and wife this morning," said Murrey.

Neighbors say they have no knowledge of police calls or domestic violence at the home in the past.

Once the husband is released from the hospital, police say he'll be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, communicating threats, interfering with emergency communications, malicious use of incendiary device, second-degree arson and carelessness with fire.
