CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two schools were briefly placed on lockdown after one person was shot Tuesday afternoon in north Charlotte.

The shooting took place at 1800 Taylor Avenue just off Beatties Ford Road around 2:30 p.m.

As a result of the shooting, the Northwest School of the Arts was on lockdown for about 10 minutes before it was lifted around 2:45.  University Park Elementary School was also locked down for about a half-hour before it was lifted around 3 p.m.

The shooting took place at a home just one block from both schools.  The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center and is expected to survive, police said.
