CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Three Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers are recovering from injuries after two separate accidents at the same location overnight -- both involving alleged drunk drivers.

CMPD said Officers Jean Wassenaar and William Reinke were injured around 11:30 a.m. Saturday night, while investigating an accident on Independence Blvd. at Eastway Drive.

Police said Steven Andrew Morris hit a patrol car, then a second patrol car was also hit.  Both patrol cars had their lights flashing.  One of the patrol cars hit Wassenaar and Reinke, who were standing in the road.

Both officers were taken to Carolinas Medical Center with serious, but not life-threatening, leg injuries.  Wassenaar was released Sunday afternoon, and Reinke was stable Sunday evening.

Morris is charged with DWI, felony serious injury by vehicle, open container, and reckless driving, among other charges.

While officers investigated that wreck, another alleged drunk driver hit another CMPD patrol car, then a second car -- both of whom also had their lights flashing -- around 2:30 a.m.

Officer Prince Blue, who was sitting in the first patrol car, was knocked unconscious.  The officer in the second car was not injured.

Police arrested Anthony Pellettieri and charged him with DWI and felony serious injury by vehicle.

Officer Blue was kept at CMC Sunday afternoon for observation, but is in stable condition as of Sunday evening.
