CORNELIUS, N.C. -- A Huntersville woman was killed during a Tuesday morning wreck involving three cars on Statesville Road.

The wreck was reported about 8:30 a.m. in the 19100 block of Statesville Road near Catawba Avenue and Westmoreland Road.

Frances Edmund of Huntersville was transported to CMC Huntersville with life-threatening injuries but later died, according to police.

Two other victims were taken to the hospital.  One with potentially life-threatening injuries was taken by Medic to Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.

The wreck briefly closed Statesville Road but authorities reopened the road around 10 a.m.

It's unclear what caused the crash, and an investigation is ongoing.  No charges have been filed.
