CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 12th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States will be marked by a number of special events today across the Charlotte region.

Several of the events will feature music and live speakers, but the schedule includes a blood drive at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Today’s schedule:

CLOVER, S.C. 7 p.m., Clover School District Auditorium, 1625 S.C. 55 East. Guest speaker is retired military officer Stan Spears.

CONCORD: 8:30 a.m., Concord Fire Station 8, 1485 Old Charlotte Road.

CONCORD:
10 a.m.-7 p.m., annual “Laps for Life” blood drive at Charlotte Motor Speedway, U.S. 29. American Red Cross and Charlotte Motor Speedway sponsor this event. Donors receive a T-shirt and a NASCAR Racing Experience ride-along. To make reservations to give blood: www.redcrossblood.org.

HICKORY: 7 p.m., downtown square. Music at 6:30 a.m., follow by memorial program.

HUNTERSVILLE: 11 a.m., North Mecklenburg Senior Center, 16601 Old Statesville Road. Honoring first responders.

HUNTERSVILLE: 9 a.m., Richard’s Coffee Shop, 165 North Main Street. The Mooresville Coast Guard Auxiliary 26-01 will present an 18-inch section of I beam from the World Trade Centers to the Welcome Home Veterans Living Military Museum.

MATTHEWS: 9 a.m.-5 p.m., community playground build at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex, on Tanktown Road.

WAXHAW: 8 a.m. service downtown, at the Military Wall of Honor
