CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was an emotional day at the Mecklenburg County courthouse at the trial of 27-year-old Andre Hampton.
He is accused of brutally beating his son to death at the AARCS Residence Suits on South Tryon Street in November of 2008.
Twenty-three-month-old Elijah Burger was bruised from head to toe. On Wednesday morning jurors got to see some of the photos documenting Elijah's injuries.
The pictures proved to be too much for some jurors as several of them broke down in tears after viewing the pictures. The judge broke for a recess shortly after that.
Jurors also heard the rest of Hampton's videotaped confession. Prosecutors started playing it on Tuesday.
In the recording, the defendant acknowledged that his son was in serious medical distress.
Hampton said he started giving him mouth-to-mouth, blowing very lightly. At one point paramedics asked what left all these marks.
"I can't explain it, I can't explain it," Hampton said.
