CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Army Captain Eric Perkins has been part of a few secret missions.
He just returned from his third deployment, the latest in Afghanistan, after two in Iraq.
But Tuesday morning’s mission was so secret he couldn’t even tell his own daughter about it. After all, the mission was to surprise her.
“I’m shaking a little,” Capt. Perkins said. “I don’t know if I’m going to be able to hold it in.”
At 2 p.m. he walked into Mrs. Weston’s kindergarten class at Joseph W. Grier Academy. His young daughter, Ellie, ran up to him, latched on, and wouldn’t let go.
Even though they talk every week, they haven’t seen one another since May.
Capt. Perkins stayed for a brief lesson, then the two left, Ellie in his arms.
“It was exciting to see him,” Ellie said. “Even though Mrs. Weston didn’t tell me.”
Ellie says the two are going to play with their Barbie dolls and then they’re going to McDonalds.
