CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Restaurant and bar owners, city leaders and neighbors gathered at Neighborhood Theater in NoDa Wednesday night to talk about a new noise ordinance proposed for Charlotte.
The proposal would ban amplified music within 400 feet of homes. Restaurant owners say that ban could ruin business.
"The biggest feature of my business is the patio and not having amplified sounds and music outside would negatively impact my business," said Kevin Cuse.
The proposed changes are a response to years of complaints from neighbors, particularly in the Elizabeth and Dilworth areas, where there are several watering holes near homes.
Neighbors say the sound can be out of control and go well into the night.
A public hearing on the ban is scheduled for March 21.
