CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- CMPD’s Citizens Academy is now accepting applications for Fall 2010 workshops which begin on September 14, 2010.

Workshops are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings either at CMPD Headquarters 601 East Trade Street, or the Training Academy located at 1770 Shopton Road, from 6:30 pm until 9:30 pm.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Training Academy has redesigned our Citizens Academy Program to include Community Education Workshops.

Community Education Workshops

We are offering many of the Citizens Academy classes as Community Education Workshops which are open to Mecklenburg County Residents upon registration.

During the Community Education Workshops you will learn about the police department’s history, mission, recruitment, training, crime prevention, crime scene search, criminal investigations and community policing philosophy.  You will participate in open discussions designed to foster an understanding of how the CMPD works with the community.

You do not have to complete an application however registration for each workshop is required.

Citizens Academy Program

All residents of Mecklenburg County are encouraged to apply for the Citizens Academy Program. Efforts are made to include members of the business and religious community, as well as, local community leaders, elected officials and media representatives.

Each applicant is subject to a general background check. After approval of your application to the Citizens Academy Program, you will then be able to register for and attend Citizens Academy Only Workshops, which include practical exercises and demonstrations that will enhance your understanding of police operations.

Maximum enrollment is 40 per workshop/class.
