CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools police Chief Bud Cesena has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
Cesena was put on leave Wednesday afternoon, CMS spokeswoman Tahira Stalberte said. She said the move is the result of a personnel matter that school policy prevents her from publicly discussing.
School board members also declined to comment on how long they had been considering the decision. Board member Rhonda Lennon said she was not aware of any outside investigation into Cesena.
Cesena has been the chief of CMS police since November 2006. Before that, he spent more than three decades at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Deputy Chief Randy Hagler has been appointed as interim police chief while Cesena is on leave.
“The district will make the decision they think best,” Hagler said.
