CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte Fire Department responded to a Haz-Mat incident on Tuesday morning.
Just after 8 a.m., the Charlotte Fire Department responded to Dana Transport in the 1700 block of Tar Heel Road in reference to trucks leaking chemicals.
The Haz-Mat team and 25 firefighters responded. Officials say acetic acid, an industrial acid was leaking from tanker trucks on the property.
Crews were able to stop the leak, and worked to keep the acid from reaching nearby creeks, but an undetermined amount of the chemical acid reached a creek and tributary nearby.
EPA officials are on the scene to clean up and evaluate any environmental damage.
No one was evacuated, as there are no residences nearby, and authorities ask that anyone in the area avoid the creek.
Dana Transport is the only business affected.
Dana Transport is a hub for different companies' trucks.
