CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A local couple is welcoming Queen City's first baby born in the new year.
Little Silas was born to Ada and Andrew Young at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital. The couple says the little boy was actually due on December 27 and kept them guessing and experimenting. In hopes of inducing labor, Ada tried everything, including eating an entire pineapple.
"You name it, we tried it. Peppers, bouncing, riding bikes, walking," she said.
When she finally started having contractions Monday morning, New Year's Eve, the couple was convinced they'd have little Silas by the evening.
"We were thinking, probably eight or nine. We were thinking, let's get this baby and let's get out of here," said Andrew.
Instead he was born just after Midnight.
"I love it! Yeah, that's an awesome birthday. That's a great birthday," said Ada.
While no one wants to start 2013 with regret, the Young's have just one.
"You can't describe having a baby. I should have started sooner. We should have started sooner. Yeah, no kidding," they both agreed.
