CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Mecklenburg County announced Monday that it has bought part of the Doral Apartments and plans to tear those buildings down.
The area is notorious for extreme flooding.
In August 2008, nearby Briar Creek overflowed its banks, leaving neighbors trapped under several feet of water. The area has experienced flooding six times since 1995.
Studies show there's no way to prevent the flooding, so the county has decided to demolish the apartments.
