CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Emergency crews responded to the scene of a fire at a condo in southeast Charlotte.

The blaze broke out around 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 6000 block of Pinebark Court just south of Albemarle Road.

Heavy smoke was showing from the condo that began in the kitchen, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

The owner was able to escape but one dog was not.  The homeowner will not immediately be able to return to the condo, officials said, and an investigation is underway.
