CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- An unexpected shoutout on national television during the Democratic National Convention put a Charlotte mom's cookie business on the map.

For a week MSNBC’'s popular morning show ‘Moring Joe’ broadcast live from the EpiCentre.  Among the crowd last Wednesday was Myers Park soccer mom Helen Burns who started Helen’s Kitchen out of her kitchen.

Helen was in host Willie Geist’s wedding and she brought her old pal some cookies.

“I was just going to take them up, watch the show for a little while and all of a sudden I hear ‘Helen come on, we’re going on camera,’” she said.

On the show, Geist said, ”Here’s the deal, the craze, in Tampa it was the Chuck Todd button.  Here in Charlotte it’s these Helen Kitchen cookies.”

In a matter of minutes, things got cooking. Burns gave out her company website and immediately started taking orders.

She had her personal cell phone listed on the company's very basic website but quickly took it down.

She normally sells about 100 cookies a week but since the DNC she’s needed help getting 800 cookies to customers.

“It’s been pretty crazy. I've had some late nights and my son who is four helps me tape the boxes together,” she said.

The mother of two runs the entire business from her house where almost every room shows signs that business is booming.

“It’s a whirlwind but it’s been great. I could not be happier,” she said.
