CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte area is gearing up for yet another round of winter weather. As of Friday morning, it was the calm before the storm and the DOT is taking no chances.
Motorists will likely see them on the road during the morning commute. Fifty contract trucks began loading up at 4 a.m. and 24 DOT trucks started preparing at 5 a.m.
In fact, the real work began Thursday. Crews were out brining roads ahead of time, covering culverts, overpasses and bridges, all spots likely to freeze first.
This big trucks don't move as fast as most drivers, so the DOT is warning motorists to have patience and to stay back.
The Friday morning drive will likely go smooth, but forecaster say the afternoon and evening commute could be tricky. They're telling residents to be prepared.
