MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- Donald Trump came back to town over the weekend to check out the newest addition to his golf course and club collection.
He asked NBC Charlotte to tag along as he surveyed the changes -- during the weekend snowstorm -- for the first time.
The real estate tycoon officially purchased Trump National Charlotte -- which is actually in Mooresville -- about a year ago for roughly $3 million. Since then, Trump has invested millions more into renovations of the club house, added a ball room, plus lengthened and widened the course.
"It's the best golf course in North Carolina," said Trump. When asked if he felt it topped iconic courses like Pinehurst or Charlotte's Quail Hollow, he said, "It's better. It's better than Quail Hollow. I have friends who are members of places like Augusta National and they love my course here."
Trump said the course remodeling is about "80 percent complete," noting the greens still must be replaced.
The reality TV star said he is currently talking about the possibility of making another major purchase in North Carolina -- though he didn't want to comment further on the record.
Trump admitted he has been looking to buy a home in the Charlotte area too.
"I like Charlotte. I plan to be here a lot in the spring and summer," he said.
