CORNELIUS, N.C. -- The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating how a plane ended up in Lake Norman.
Charlotte Fire Department officials said Friday that the aircraft was reported to the FAA after firefighters spotted it on sonar images during scheduled dive training September 5. The plane rests at a depth of about 90 feet in the southern portion of the lake.
The type of plane and how it ended up in the lake have not yet been determined and FAA officials are searching ownership records to find out who owned the aircraft.
No bodies were found inside the plane and officials do not know how long it has been in the water.
