GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gastonia officials are investigating a fire that broke out at a Freightliner plant early Thursday morning.

Gastonia Fire Department was dispatched to Freightliner on Tulip Drive for a commercial business fire.

The first arriving engine encountered heavy smoke and called a second alarm, according to officials.  The fire was deep within the building, involving the filtration system of a multi-unit welding area.

The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.

Estimated equipment damage is $75,000 to $100,000, no significant damage to the building.  The manager estimated $1 million of lost production time, according to officials.

There were no reported injuries.
