MONROE, N.C. -- An old pro is headed back to the field.
NBC Charlotte was at Union Academy in Monroe Monday afternoon where former Carolina Panther fullback Brad Hoover was named the new head football coach.
Hoover said he was beyond excited by the new challenge.
"That's what I want to do -- to be that influence just like the teachers and administrators I had growing up," he said. "I'm excited about the opportunity. At this level it's the most pure form of football you're ever going to play."
Former head coach Lynn Keziah retired at the end of this past season. Under his leadership the team went from being a start-up to making the state playoffs.
