ROCK HILL, S.C. -- A Rock Hill assistant principal charged with child exploitation appeared in court Friday morning.

Darin Pearson worked at Sullivan Middle School.

CMPD says the department received information from the Metro Nashville Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force regarding Pearson. They say the information indicated Pearson was involved in trading child pornography.

CMPD Youth and Cyber Crimes Detectives and SBI agents conducted a search of Pearson's residence and seized electronic documents that connected Pearson to child pornography, officials say.

He was arrested in mid-March and charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a child.

Police say there's no indication any assaults on children have taken in place in Charlotte.

Pearson resigned as assistant principal because of the investigation.

Pearson most recently served as the assistant principal at Sullivan Middle School after serving the school as a teacher from 2002 to 2007, and was once named teacher of the year. He also worked as a substitute teacher before becoming employed full time with the district.
