SALISBURY, N.C. -- There will be stricter rules for property owners who board up vacant houses in Salisbury.

Tuesday night, the City Council approved a proposal that would give property owners six months to fix the homes up or tear them down.

Last week NBC Charlotte showed homes in an area dubbed 'the graveyard' that neighbors say have been boarded up for years!

Under the new ordinance, homeowners who violate the rules can be fined up to $5,000.
