CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- More than 300 people attended a candlelight vigil for 13-year-old Khalil Cousart Wednesday night. The rising 8th grader was shot in the chest Tuesday morning off Tuckasegee Road.
His father, Antwain Lockhart, said the crowd that turned out for the vigil made him feel better.
"It shows what a good person my son was. People loved him," said Lockhart.
Police have charged Cousart's 16-year-old friend, Damien Wright, with murder. Wright made his first court appearance Wednesday.
Nearly everyone at the vigil believed the shooting was accidental.
"I would like an apology from him. That's about it. I ain't got no hard feelings," said Lockhart.
