INDIAN LAND, S.C. -- Horses very rarely give birth to twins but a South Carolina mare is now watching over two healthy foals.

Erin Woodbury says the Belgium Warmblood named Utah gave birth on Saturday.

The foals named Tahoe and Reno are doing well.

Woodbury says horses typically do not have uteruses large enough to carry more than one foal to term.

"The odds are so great that she would have gone full term and have two perfectly healthy twins, that I am not even sure there is a statistic available," Woodbury wrote in an e-mail to NewsChannel 36.

Woodbury operates Blue Wave Stable located on Shelley Mullis Road in Indian Land.
