DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Crowds packed the Ben and Jerry's ice cream shop in Davidson Sunday to meet co-founder of the company, Jerry Greenfield.

He signed autographs for fans, took pictures. Customers say it was a sweet treat to have him stop by.

“The fact that he's here seeing us it kind of means a lot for him to come out and reach out to us. He said he's having a blast so I’m glad he could come," said former employee Sandy LaCorte.

“Ben and I started with a little homemade ice cream parlor and we're kind of the same guys now that we were then. It's always it's always a great surprise for people because many people think Ben and I are no longer alive," Jerry said, said as he burst into laughter.

Ben and Jerrys' popular free cone day will be on April 8, from 12 pm. to 8 p.m.
