Lanes re-open on Providence Road after pavement sinks

The center inbound and outbound lanes of part of Providence Road near the Queens Road intersection (1057 Providence Road) have been closed to repair road settlement. The area will possibly be closed through Sunday.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Lane closures on Providence Road will likely impacted Friday afternoon rush hour as officials determined what was causing the roadway to sink about four inches.

The center inbound and outbound lanes of Providence Road were closed due the to sinking at 1057 Providence Road, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility District spokesperson Karen Whichard.

On Saturday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities announced the roadway re-opned around 6 a.m.

According to Karen Whichard, Community Relations Manager for the utility department, no pipeline issues were found and crews replaced the subsrface and repaved the roadway.
