CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A special program is reaching out to women entrepreneurs here in Charlotte.  Urban Rebound helps business owners reach their goals by finding them mentors.

The  program is part of Count Me In, a non profit dedicated to helping women grow their small business into million dollar enterprises.

The group focused on Charlotte this year, awarding 40 women entreprenuers scholarships, including Creating Classics Hair Salon owned by Shamira Ray in the University Area.

Ray hopes, with the program's guidance, she can create her own product line as well as open other salons throughout the Charlotte area.

"I'm looking to do more than just be behind the chair.  I want to be involved in the community," said Ray.

A program volunteer says women business owner face special challenges.

"Typically women aren't just running their business, they're also runnng their households.  So, you've got businesses that you're running.  So, you have that during the day and then maybe in the evening, you're at home doing homework and flipping burgers, trying to figure out how you're going to feed your family and get everybody in bed at the same time."

Shamira encouraged NBC Charlotte to check back in a year.  She plans big changes with the help of Urban Rebound.

"You'll see more employees, you'll see more clients.  You'll see my product line and then you'll see that business has grown 30 percent or better.  I don't want to limit myself to 30 percent," she said.
