CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Gwenn Davis is like a lot of moms -- she worries.
“I love my daughter, and her safety is my main concern,” she said. “I wouldn't dare let her come out here by herself without me being here. It's just too dangerous,” Davis said as she stood at the bus stop with her second grader.
Davis' biggest fear: cars ignoring the rules, speeding past stopped school buses. It's especially dangerous because so many kids, excited to get to school, run to get to the bus.
NBC Charlotte drove with North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Jolly. He's on the lookout this week for motorists who don't stop for the school bus arm.
"They're speeding to get to work and not paying attention," Jolly said. “They'll just pass them. It’s really dangerous to the kids that are getting on the bus in the morning or in the afternoon getting off."
NBC Charlotte talked to one bus driver who said drivers roll past her arm all the time.
Davis said she has a message to drivers.
“Stop at the bus stop. It’s kids, this is our future,” she said.
