ALBEMARLE, N.C -- Albemarle Police arrested a man accused of killing a local business owner on Halloween night.

Police charged Ryan Anthony Efird , 45, with armed robbery and first-degree murder of coin store owner Eldridge Roger Gibson last month.

Albermarle Police Chief William Halliburton said that the SBI and the Stanly County Sheriff's Office helped them with the investigation.

"The SBI was able to enhance surveillance video and get better images to give to media outlets which helped lead to a suspect," he said, "We got lots of calls and leads on several people-- including Efird ."

The murder happened around 6 p.m. on October 31 at B & G Coins near the intersection of West Main Street and Concord Road.

Police say the store owner was shot and rushed to the hospital where he later died.

Surveillance video showed the suspect knocking on the door to the business, and the owner opening the door for him. Then, roughly 20 minutes later, the suspect comes out of the business and loads items into the store owner's truck before driving off.

A search warrant shows that investigators went to the apartment of a woman who identified herself as Efird's fiancee after Efird tried to sell or trade at a pawn shop. It went on to say that Efrid told someone that he planned to rob and kill Gibson.

Efird was taken into custody just a few miles from his parents house without incident, just outside the city limits in Stanly County. The 45-year-old, who has a criminal history and just got out of prison this year, is now being held at the Stanly County Detention Facility.

He went before a magistrate Wednesday morning, and he still has not been given a bond.
