CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A man and woman were caught inside of a Charlotte church after breaking in through a window, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police responded to a breaking and entering call at Missionary Baptist Church in the 700 block of Farmhurst Drive around 5 a.m.

Officers say they found 43-year-old Iris Rainer and 45-year-old Darren Spann in the church.

Both men were arrested without incident. Investigators say they admitted to breaking in and attempting to steal church property.

Each suspect is charged with breaking and entering a place of worship. Spann is also charged with giving fictitious information to officers.
