CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Providence Road in south Charlotte may not resemble the entrance to a nudist colony, but anyone walking or driving along the 6000 block on Saturday afternoon would have gotten more than an eyeful.
A mother and her two kids, an infant son, her 5-year-old daughter, and their grandmother strolled down the street totally naked.
“They didn’t understand why we were stopping them, they didn’t understand why we were stopping them, they had a different set of realities,” said Sgt. Dan Merwin of CMPD’S Independence Division.
He says the women told officers that they were given a message from God.
"They said Jesus told them to take their clothes off and walk down the road, that's what they said," said Merwin. "She was talking saying Jesus told her to do this and that the baby was Jesus".
The sight caused a delay and traffic headaches for police. NBC Charlotte talked to several motorists who can’t imagine how they would have reacted.
"I don’t know what I would have done I probably would have wrecked my car," said Motorist Gay Stiever
Police didn’t arrest the adults, they were taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation, and D.S.S. was also called in the check on the kids.
