CHARLOTTE, NC -- The home of Paula Broadwell in Dilworth has become a popular spot for onlookers and national media camped out hoping to catch a glimpse of the alleged military mistress returning from days in hiding with her family. But according to county documents, it's the wrong house.

Voter registration records show she lives in the 1400 block of Lexington Avenue, not Mt Vernon Avenue. NBC Charlotte went to the Lexington Ave. home to figure out the confusion. The news crew was greeted by a retired couple in the driveway.

"You are not the Broadwells?” asked NBC Charlotte anchor Ben Thompson.

"I am not, and I never was," said man who identified himself as John Leuke.

"And you don't know General Petraeus?” Thompson asked.

"No," Leuke replied.

Leuke explained he & his wife bought the home while still living in Minnesota years ago, and rented the home to the Broadwells in 2008, before the Leuke family eventually moved south.  At that point, he says the Broadwells moved down the street.

"We have seen them occasionally. We get mail that didn't get forwarded to them, so we'll walk it down to them. See them at block parties, Fourth of July, Halloween, that kind of stuff," Leuke said.

Tax records show that the Broadwells bought their Mt. Vernon Avenue home in 2009.

So why do county tax documents show a conflicting address from voter registration documents? It appears Paula Broadwell listed her address as the Lexington Avenue home in 2008, but never changed it once the family moved. By state law, poll workers must verify a voter's address at the ballot box. Providing the wrong address is against the law. In 2010, Broadwell never had the address changed.

One Board of Election officials tells NBC Charlotte that it appears Paula Broadwell finally changed her address on record, three years late, last week during the most recent election. At last check, that information hasn't been officially documented by county records.
