CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A woman was injured after a car accident during Thursday evening rush hour on I-485.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on the I-485 outer loop between Providence Road and Rea Road.
Troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol said 26-year-old Kathleen Thomas pressed the brakes on her silver car and lost control of the vehicle. She crossed the median, clipped one car and spun. A SUV then struck her.
The Charlotte Fire Department had to extricate the woman. Medic took her to the hospital for a fractured pelvis and leg injuries.
Thomas was charged with reckless driving and driving while impaired because of six different medications found in the car, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Traffic was backed up for miles. Crews were able to clear the interstate and traffic started moving around 8:15 p.m.
