CONCORD, N.C. -- A race fan who was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a car at Charlotte Motor Speedway Saturday night remains in critical condition.

The collision happened near the pedestrian bridge on Highway 29 around 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

Thomas McPherson, 66, of Gastonia was trying to cross the road not marked by a crosswalk or any other traffic control device, police said, when he was hit by a 1994 Honda Accord.  McPherson was transported to Carolinas Medical Center.

The driver of the Honda Accord and a lone passenger were not injured in the wreck, and speed was not a factor, police said.

The crash is still under investigation, but no charges have been filed.
