CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A favorite family-friendly playground closed its doors for good on Friday.
Plaza Fiesta was brought out by Cabela's to open a new outdoor store. So, local families took the chance to bring the kids to play one last time.
"I'm really sad. I think it's a really good idea and it's wonderful for families," said mom, Cheryl Price.
The playground was packed at Plaza Fiesta Friday morning; many parents say they wanted
the kids to enjoy it one more time.
"Pretty bummed out, especially in winter months when you don't have ability to go out cold days like this and play at the park; it's great way to get his energy out, " said dad Bob Murphy.
Others had never been and wanted to check it out before the doors closed for good.
"We love it; my daughter is actually in school right now. I wish we would have come before because she's never been here and my son is, well, he's gone-- having a blast. So, it's awesome, yeah, and sad we never came before," said mom, Andrea Frederick.
It's not just parents who are sad, but business owners like Etelbina Beltran who has watched kids grow up running Cafe Fiesta and serving ice cream.
"I'm really sad, really sad. I think in the morning, oh gosh, I cry today, but I'm not crying," said Beltran.
Most all of the businesses have already closed for good, but Beltran wanted to stay through the last day for the kids.
"That's the kids-- that's my business, because I have ice cream and smoothies," said Beltran.
While many parents say they understand how financially it probably made sense, it's still disappointing.
"I think it's actually sad that corporate is getting rid of something that's so good for families in the community."
After closing, the inside will be demolished to make room for Cabela's. Managers say as of now there are no plans to relocate the playground somewhere else.
