GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gastonia police are asking for the public’s help to identify three men in connection to $12,000 worth of stolen gas at a convenience store.
On Tuesday, a suspect paid several dollars for gas at the Save-More off of Union Road, but then apparently had a key for one of the gas pumps.
Police said the men pulled two vehicles up to the pump, which appear to be a Ford Taurus and Dodge Durango, and filled gas into both vehicles with more than they paid for.
The suspects continued to pump gas into more people's vehicles without the store clerk noticing, police said.
The store owner told police this has been happening several times a day for a number of days since the beginning of December with an estimated 3,700 gallons stolen.
All three suspects are believed to be involved in several of the incidents.
Anyone who can identify the men are asked to call Detective Nancy Capistran at (704) 866-6884, or Crime Stoppers of Gaston County at (704) 861-8000.
