CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a deadly shooting at a west Charlotte motel early Monday morning.
Police said 51-year-old Gerald Kirkland was shot and killed at the Airport Inn on Wilkinson Boulevard around 3 a.m.
Officers were called to the hotel room after someone reported hearing gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located Kirkland inside the motel suffering from a gunshot wound.
Kirkland was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.
The investigation revealed 37-year-old Cremlan Glenn Ogarro as the suspect in Kirkland's murder.
Monday around 3 p.m., the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Ogarro in the 4400 block of South Tryon Street.
Police say Ogarro will be taken to police headquarters for an interview; upon completion of that interview, his charges will be released.
