STATESVILLE, N.C. – Statesville police are looking for a man they believe was trying to abduct a 7-year-old boy Thursday evening.
Police said a man driving a Dodge Magnum tried to lure a child from his family’s front yard on Reid Street around 5 p.m. Thursday.
The child’s mother told NewsChannel 36 she’d seen the car several times during the day and could hear the man offer her son candy.
She added the man leaned down to the floor board to pick something up and when he came up he saw her standing on the porch.
That’s when the man sped off.
The suspect is described as a white man with short, possibly brown or black hair.
Police spent Friday warning neighbors and trying to find the man.
