CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two police cruisers collided after a chase in east Charlotte early Friday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said  the chase happened shortly after police were called to the Charleston Place apartments off Idlewild Road where a woman told police that someone had taken her car.

The victim told police a man approached her with a gun before 3 a.m. Friday and demanded the car. The suspects led police on a chase before jumping out of a stolen car and into another vehicle.

The chase ended after an accident on outbound Independence Boulevard near Harris Boulevard involving two police cruisers.

No one was hurt in the wreck, according to police.

Police took one person into custody but were still looking for another suspect in the carjacking. There was no immediate word of charges in the case.

Crews briefly closed part of Independence Boulevard to clear the scene, but reopened all lanes by 5 a.m.
