CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers are investigating a mysterious shooting. The incident happened around 4:45 Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Lancaster Highway and Providence Road West.

Someone apparently fired a rifle round through the front windshield of 18-year-old Yazmeen Rigaud’s car. Police aren’t sure if it was an act of road rage or a just a random shooting.

"I was waiting to turn and I just heard my back window explode I had no idea what happened…like something in a movie, like when someone jumps through a window," said Yazmeen.

The teen pulled over worried about her rear window and started to call her father.

"When I took my phone out I looked up and I see the hole in my windshield and…I just started to cry," she added.

Marlon Rigaud, her father, got the call while he was at the movies.

"Thank God she didn't run into anything when it happened. I told her to calm down," said Rigaud.

He doesn’t think this was road rage.  He believes it was just an act of stupidity.

"Some clown who thinks this is the wild wild west, who thinks it’s hunting season for what I don't know,” he said.

Had Yazmeen leaned over to adjust the radio she could have easily been shot in the head and might have gotten killed.

"That would have went straight through my head...I'm glad it didn't, I mean, that would have sucked, dying at 18 years old driving home from work," said the teen.

Police are trying to find the person responsible, Yazmeen would like to see them pay for the damage, and her father just wants them to think.

"Are you stupid, are you stupid," he said.
