GASTONIA, N.C. -- Gastonia police took a man into custody after shots were fired during a standoff on Wednesday.

Police and SWAT were called to a home in the 200 block of East 5th Avenue Wednesday morning to assist with a man who was having mental issues.

The man refused to come out of his home and shots were fired during the standoff. SWAT evacuated other homes located on the street before they took the man out of his house.

SWAT members were able to get the man out of his home and place him under arrest. The suspect was checked out by EMS before being taken into custody by Gastonia police.

Authorities say no one has been injured.
